Por la mañana temprano, tomamos un autobús que nos dejó muy cerca de la entrada del templo budista de Eikando, en el distrito de Higashiyama. El templo de Eikando es famoso porque en uno de sus edificios se encuentra la venerada estatua de Amida Nyorai. Se trata de una figura venerada en el budismo japonés, que representa una de las cinco deidades de la sabiduría. Lo primero que hicimos nada más salir del Shinkansen, fue dirigirnos a la oficina de turismo, situada en el interior de la moderna estación de tren de Kyoto.
